My doctoral work applies Computer Vision and Deep Learning to automated road pavement inspection — covering defect detection, signaling, dimensional measurement, and prioritization — bridging AI models and practical infrastructure management. As a researcher at the Embrapii Innovation Hub at IFCE, I coordinate applied R&D projects in partnership with public agencies and private organizations, spanning Transportation Engineering, Healthcare, and Precision Agriculture.

Gabriel Tavares

Gabriel Tavares is an Associate Professor at the Federal Institute of Ceará (IFCE), where he plays a key role in people development. As a lecturer, he teaches courses in Computer Science: Programming, Databases, Operating Systems, and Software Engineering. In applied research, he leads technical teams in the development of computational systems and data analysis with direct impact on Precision Agriculture, Healthcare, Engineering, and Public Administration.

Also a researcher collaborator at the Data Science BR Network and the NUVEN Lab/IFCE, expanding scientific collaboration in Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Vision, and Transportation Engineering.

From 2021 to 2023, he served as IT Coordinator at the Innovation and Technology Diffusion Center for the Semiarid (CIDTS). Since 2019, he has led 12 teams in software development projects at the Embrapii Innovation Hub of IFCE, with over 3,000 teaching hours delivered.

In the engineering field, he is a PhD Candidate in Transportation Engineering at PETRAN (Federal University of Ceará), affiliated with LRI/UFC and ISISE/UMinho, with a sandwich doctoral fellowship at the University of Minho (Portugal) funded by CAPES/PDSE. His doctoral research focuses on automated road pavement inspection using Computer Vision and Deep Learning, with emphasis on practical solutions for public infrastructure managers.
